It’s been an amazing year and I am so proud of what your children have achieved across all learning areas. Everyone has worked very hard to accomplish their personal best. I have had a wonderful time as their teacher and I have enjoyed getting to know the children and your families as the year has progressed.

I appreciate the support I have received from you as parents. It has been most beneficial for the children that we work together to achieve goals for them.

Summer holidays can be long when children are bored, so I encourage you to make sure they have plenty of books to read. Maybe a trip to the local library would be fun.

I know that many of you take special outings or even a holiday over the summer. It would be great practice for the children to write about their experiences. Maybe they could purchase a cheap exercise book that they can cover and decorate. I encourage them to use adjectives and adverbs in their writing and provide all the details of the experience. The children always re-read and edit their own writing. They may even wish to write a narrative or persuasive text.

They might like to allocate the back of the exercise book to maths practice. Some ideas include 2, 5, 10 and 3 times tables practise, addition and subtraction with regrouping, drawing maps and flipping, sliding and turning objects.

The children will still have access to Studyladder if they would like to do some activities online.

Holidays are always filled with great memories so I wish you all a very special and safe holiday period. I will miss you all very much and look forward to seeing you when school resumes in 2018.

Stem activity with Buddies

What a fantastic time we had with our Kindy Buddies today. Mrs Harders and Ms Harvey set a Stem task for the children to complete together.

 They all worked together to design and create their Christmas trees. Enjoy these pictures that show just how valuable this learning experience was.

Week 7 Homework

In reading this week we are practicing the reading strategy of creating images. When reading with your child, please encourage them to create a picture of the story in their mind. Refer to touch, smell, taste, sight and hearing.

Children are currently being tested on 3 times tables.

Week 6 Homework

In reading this week we are practising the reading strategy of self-questioning. We encourage children to think of their own questions before, during and after reading. 

When reading with your child, please encourage them to ask questions such as 

I wonder…….? 

Who …….? 

What ……..? 

When ……? 

Why ………?

We have been doing a unit in Mathematics on multiplication. We learnt to represent multiplication equations using arrays.

Blue Bots

Blue Bots!

We have been studying mapping in Mathematics this week. Part of this unit involves making pathways using left and right turns and steps forward and backwards. 

We have been using the blue bot robots to help us practice our mapping skills. The children have been drawing and then writing their own pathways (simple computer programs really). Once they have completed it they have been entering their pathway into the bot, then setting it off to see if the bots path matches their drawing. 

Sooooo much fun!!!!

Homework Week 5

In reading this week we are practising the reading strategy of monitoring? We need to make sure we understand what we are reading before we go on. When reading with your child please ask questions such as  

Please retell me what you have learnt so far? 

What does this word mean? 

Do we need to reread any sections? 

So we need to slow down?
